We are here!
After months and months of planning, praying, saving and fundraising, we are here! 4 families, 22 of us in total are finally in Mazatlan and already God is working in each one of us, preparing our heart for what He has in store for us in the next couple of weeks!
Our first night here, we walked through the night markets where we were greeted by the locals who were out selling their home made food (which all looked and smelled delicious!) and local crafts. The streets were bustling with families who were out for a great Sunday night and we were entertained by the street dancers and the loco (crazy!) guys diving off the high rocks into the ocean! We were then taken to the local Taco bar for the best Mexican (and cheapest) we have ever eaten! Even the kids were trying all the different spices and a fun night was had by all. It was so delicious and amazing to hang with the locals.
It is the most surreal feeling to finally be here and its crazy to think that we finally get to start the build tomorrow! YES tomorrow, and we are all SO excited!
Today was a day of orientation and getting to know the staff at the YWAM base. We started the day with praise and worship (half in Spanish and half in English) in the sweltering 39 degree heat (something we are all trying to get use to) and again we were fed the most amazing food, yes I think we will all be going home a couple of kilo’s heavier, but hey, it’s all part of the cause! The kids spent hours in the pool which apparently was “as warm as a bath” and it was a great day of getting to know more about Mazatlan and the families we will be building for.
After a fun trip in an open air truck taxi to “The Mega” supermarket to get some groceries, we were all back to the base for pulled pork tortilla’s and rice for dinner, and again, it was a great time of getting to know the locals.
Finally, all 14 kids are tucked in bed, all a little sun kissed and the adults are sitting around learning how to make balloon animals for when we meet some of the local kids tomorrow! It has been an incredible start to our time here and we are expectant of what will happen tomorrow….
